After the Uptown Theater closed in the 1990s, its roof later caved in. Luckily, funds were found to install a new roof but the building was boarded up and so very sad looking.
This year though, we installed the recreated neon sign! (Image by Dave Leiker.)
Today, Scott Wiltse and Justin Garr finished wrapping the cornice in protective metal.
Again, the before.
And also today, Scott and Justin and Ross MacTaggart installed new window/door decals! A faux restoration!
.
The decals had been suggested by Tom Thompson, and were made by Kansas Graphics in Cottonwood Falls. The company also graciously donated part of the cost.
The 2021 Heritage Trust Grant will restore…for real!…the east doors and windows, but in the meantime things look much better!
I just absolutely LOVE this!!!
So happy to see this. I loved seeing movies in this place. I didn’t get to town to often lol. Wished I knew more of the history of the building.
This looks so good! Nice work.
My family love going there to watch movies on a Saturday night.
