The Neon Sign Begins Its Journey!

About a decade ago the neon UPTOWN sign was taken down, and it has been stored ever since in a city-owned building.

It was high up and hard to see in storage.

But today it was brought down to ground level!

The sign when it was in situ.

After being stored for many years, today Justin and I moved it into his truck, after comedically trying to get it into my minivan. The sign is larger than we realized, about nine-feet-long. It is in good condition with no rust.

The top and bottom of the sign have distinctive 1930s flourishes. And these, it seems, were yellow!

From what we can tell, the sign was black with red letters, and yellow flourishes! Normally, neon is the same color as the underlying letters, so it is likely that the neon gas was red.

The sign is to be professionally sprayed with auto body paint. Then the plans are for it to go to Coffelt Signs in Emporia to be fitted for neon!!!!!!!!

Awesome! It’s great to see the sign on it’s journey to being fully restored! If you can, please keep updating us with pictures of the sign as it gets restored, painted, neon added, etc…
Nice work Ross and everyone working to restore the theatre.
It will be awesome to see the sign in the evenings glowing when it is fully restored, lighted and hanging on the front of the building at night! Is there going to be a big event/lighting ceremony when the sign is turned on for the first time?
Maybe it could be done when more Chase County alumni are in town, like around Christmas or rodeo weekend??
    Just an idea…

Keep up the good work guys! I look forward to seeing the first pics of the sign painted, red, black and yellow and pics of the sign with neon.

Do you have any updated pictures of the sign on it’s refurbishing journey??
I’d be interested to see updated pics of it with paint, with neon etc…when those steps are completed.
What’s the date that the sign is expected to be finished and mounted to the building?

Have you posted any new and updated pictures of the sign’s progress?
I haven’t heard anything or seen any pics since this first posting.

Did the sign get painted? Has the neon begun?
If you could post updated pics Ross, I’m sure everyone would love to see the progress.
    Thanks! (in advance)

When is the sign supposed to be finished?

Did you ever say when the lighting ceremony will take place?
What date is the sign going to be mounted to the theatre?

So, when is the sign supposed to be finished and hung on the building??

Is there a tentative estimated date for a lighting ceremony for the sign?
I emailed you with this question Ross. I’m not sure if you got my email. I haven’t gotten a reply yet.
