The Neon Sign Begins Its Journey!

About a decade ago the neon UPTOWN sign was taken down, and it has been stored ever since in a city-owned building.

It was high up and hard to see in storage.

But today it was brought down to ground level!

The sign when it was in situ.

After being stored for many years, today Justin and I moved it into his truck, after comedically trying to get it into my minivan. The sign is larger than we realized, about nine-feet-long. It is in good condition with no rust.

The top and bottom of the sign have distinctive 1930s flourishes. And these, it seems, were yellow!

From what we can tell, the sign was black with red letters, and yellow flourishes! Normally, neon is the same color as the underlying letters, so it is likely that the neon gas was red.

Cool.

The sign is to be professionally sprayed with auto body paint. Then the plans are for it to go to Coffelt Signs in Emporia to be fitted for neon!!!!!!!!
