A New Discovery!

Recently, Tricia Carrier came across this image owned by her grandmother, Maxine Pendergraft Carrier. The image is dated 1939 and is the only image discovered to date showing the building in use as a movie theater. Note how the downspouts to each side appear linked to a built-in gutter.

The huge fanlight window is extant and awaiting restoration. For many decades it was covered with plywood. The entry doors are not original, nor are the sidelights. Note what appears to be vertical sign with two lights overhead. The doors, sidelights, and sign were replaced in the 1940s.

The feature film!

It’s just a  thrill seeing an image like this! Thank you, Tricia!!!!!!!!

What a great picture. Also, the pole and the two lights at the top are new to me. Other than the building looks much like it does today. No sign out front is another surprise.
