After much ado, a new neon sign was built by Coffelt Signs for the 1900 theater!

And (drum roll, please) the sign is done!!!!!!!! The sign is protected by a shipping crate.

Inside the crate, the sign glows magically!

The bottom of the sign. Note the gradating colors, a feature of the original sign.

It will be a while before the new sign can be installed outside as Strong City needs to build a new curb and other infrastructure issues, which should be complete in 2019. In the meantime, we plan to install the sign inside the theater so it can be enjoyed.

We are planning a LIGHT THE SIGN fundraiser event, so stay tuned!

Oh, the Uptown sign needs a musical celebration!

First, something classic (classic to MY youth: the 1980s): Prince, “Uptown” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvq_1mLs6dQ

And then, a song of a much more recent vintage…w/ movie scenes the old theater may have hosted! Bruno Mars/Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk”, featuring Fred Astaire et al! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1F0lBnsnkE

Restoring the Uptown: don’t believe it? Just watch!
